E-commerce in Russia: admitad reports Half-Year (H1) 2017 results

Moscow, September 12, 2017. At the joint press event by Russian Post, ACIT and admitad, the 1H 2017 results of Russian online retail were summed up.

Based on its own statistics, admitad has collected data on the Russian regions, e-commerce segments, and platforms.

In Russia, 80% of purchases were made via desktop PC, 12% via Android, and 8% via iOS devices.

The largest share of mobile purchases falls on Samara region, Moscow, Sverdlovsk region, Tatarstan, and Nizhny Novgorod region. Moscow is only 8th.

As a purchasing platform, Android OS prevails in Tatarstan, Rostov region, Samara and Sverdlovsk regions.

iOS is leading in Moscow, Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod region, Krasnodar and Sverdlovsk regions.

As for purchases in online stores, Moscow accounts for 29% online purchases made using desktop PC, 29% using Android OS, and 44% using iOS. The next is St. Petersburg with 10% purchases via desktop PC, 10% via Android, and 11% via iOS. During the first half of 2017 in Moscow, online shoppers spent three times more money than in St. Petersburg. The total share of regions outside the TOP 10 was 39% for desktop PC, 36% for Android, and 24% for iOS.

Moscow and Moscow region. Compared to Moscow city, in Moscow region there was spent 6 times less cash on Desktop, 10 times less on Android, and 9 times less on iOS.

Regions outside the TOP 10 in terms of money spent. In total, in regions outside the Top 10, 33% more was paid using desktop PC, 24% more using Android, and 45% less using iOS, as compared to Moscow.

Mobile devices are most often used to shop for kids stuff, accessories, goods for pets, health and beauty, as well as sport categories. In these segments, customers know in advance what they plan to purchase, and no fitting rooms are required.
